"A Stub of Support :)"
Originally published in December 2021 for TEAMS Magazine, Issue no. 1
TEAMS Magazine was created as part of an introductory publishing course. Named after the popular Microsoft conferencing app, the magazine documented our class's journey through the fall 2021 semester, which had to be delivered entirely online due to the coronavirus pandemic. Our collaborative efforts culminated in this online publication¹ featuring a variety of literary and visual projects — among them, students produced "field maps" that illustrated the diverse publishing industry of Toronto.
As part of the first (and only) issue, I designed a "field map" in the form of invitations to select businesses (i.e. independent bookstores, publishing houses, print shops, and event spaces), which were intended to be printed and distributed in people's mailboxes. Taking inspiration from movie and theme park tickets, each "admit one" stub contains information about a local business, including its name, address, telephone number, neighbourhood, and corresponding QR code.
These tickets serve multiple purposes: they are physical reminders of the city's many small brick-and-mortar shops, which are alternatives to big-box stores and e-commerce sites; they encourage residents to explore and support their local community, especially during difficult economic times; and they delightfully function as bookmarks or mementos.

* Please note that some of the locales may have sadly closed down since the release of these ticket stubs in 2021.
